CHENNAI: A city based film producing company has moved Madras High Court against the Sun TV Network, claiming rights over 81 Tamil films including many evergreen hits that were being aired continuously by the channel for years. One of the films in the list was reportedly aired by Sun TV today.

M/s Nemichand Jhabak, represented by its partner, V Hitesh Jhabak initiated civil proceedings against Sun TV claiming ‘world negative rights’ in respect of 81 Tamil feature films. The list includes some of the classics such as Bharata Vilas, Thanga Malai Ragasiyam and Galatta Kalyanam.

“The issue relates to a set of movies that we had sold to Sun TV in 2000. They are raising allegation that we sold the movies wrongfully, citing a suit moved by one Krishnamoorthy claiming rights for these movies in 2005,” said Hitesh Jhabak.

“The allegation levelled by Sun TV prompted us to move the court. We are a 60-year-old organisation, and we have been holding the rights on these films since 1979,” he added. Alleging that Sun TV rejected the demand to return the films, Hitesh said, “Despite making the allegation, they refused to give back the films. which is in the list.”
