CHENNAI: Though they allegedly received several threat calls from ‘friends’ of Lingaa producer and fans of Superstar Rajinikanth, beleaguered distributors are firm in going ahead with their one-day fast on Saturday.
After getting a direction from the Madras High Court they decided to hold their fast at Valluvar Kottam on January 10 to protest against the losses incurred in releasing Rajinikanth’s Lingaa.
“After we got the judgment in the High Court, we got a call from Soorappa Babu, a producer who is Rockline Venkatesh’s friend. He threatened us not to go ahead with the fast, as two lakh fans of Rajinikanth would come and attack us. But we are going ahead with it,” said R Singaravelu, distributor and theatre owner from Tirunelveli. Soorappa Babu is a Kannada producer and when Express attempted to reach him, his staff were not forthcoming.
Lingaa released on December 12, after being sold for an exorbitant amount by Eros International. After the movie failed to really set registers tinkling, distributors and theatre owners started a stir,
demanding their money back from the producers and Rajinikanth. “All attempts to reach the Superstar have been futile, as he is leaving the country to avoid the issue,” said the distributor. Close to 300 protestors are expected to fast on Saturday.
