CHENNAI:A spacious wedding hall constructed by Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple authorities at a cost of  Rs 11.48 crore is nearing completion. Food and HR and CE Minister R Kamaraj on Wednesday inspected ongoing works at the site located at No 1, Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Road (Raja Annamalaipuram) and directed the officials to complete the works at the earliest.

The temple had been maintaining a marriage hall by the name Sri Kapaleeswarar Karpagambal Wedding Hall in Venkatesa Agraharam in Mylapore for the past 50 years.  Since the hall became very old and following requests from the devotees, the temple authorities decided to build a new spacious mandapam with all modern facilities.

The new mandapam is being raised on an area of 56,036 square feet.  On the ground floor, the hall has 475 seats while the hall on the first floor has 1,000 seats, five rooms and a VIP dining hall (can accommodate 80 people totally).  On the second floor, seven rooms are being constructed.

On the ground floor and first floor, laying of the roof slab and ramp for cars has been completed. Weathering course works are on on the second floor. Due to change in structural design, the revised estimates has been prepared for the construction of this mandapam (Rs 11.48 crore).  At present, electrical works, installing lift and false ceiling are going on in full swing.
