CHENNAI:The place where the city airport gets the most amount of flak and ridicule is social media, particularly when a piece of ceiling or glass panel falls down. To counter this and boost the image of the airport as a clean, modern transit space the Chennai Airport now has an official twitter handle @aaichnairport.
Started earlier this week, it’s efficacy was seen when a baby monkey made it’s way into the international terminal two days ago.
Immediately, there was a tweet posted — “With the wild around us, we have a tiny baby monkey in our terminal. Wildlife dept has come to rescue,” which for once meant that the stories about animals running around the airport weren’t without basis.
Most airports around the world have been on Twitter, but Airports Authority of India-operated airports have steadfastly stayed away from social media till now.
Created and quietly operated by the team under the Airport Director Deepak Shastri, the attempt to engage with airport users is still taking flight. “It’s a new space, but we are learning swiftly. We will use it to address the concerns of people and also spread some good, new developments about the Chennai airport,” said the director.
Twitter users have reacted positively, spreading the word that all gripes and complaints about the airport could be directed at the handle — following which quite a few issues were raised.
