CHENNAI: The rain may have brought gloom and plenty of flooded doom, but it has also brought cheer to the water managers who have been battling a crisis caused by poor rainfall over the last three years. “We now have water to last us for the next eight months,” said a senior Metro Water official.

Credit is due to Metro Water for managing the water resources efficiently to ensure that the city has not gone thirsty these last few years. The four reservoirs - Poondi, Chembarambakkam, Red Hills and Sholavaram - had only 387 million cubic feet of water. All the four reservoirs now have 8.8 TMC feet of water. Meanwhile, the Poondi reservoir reached its full capacity of 35 feet with total storage standing at 3231 mcft.
