CHENNAI: T S Sayujya launched her first collection of poetry, Firefly in the City, at The Savera Hotel, recently. In the spirit of poetry, her book launch was followed by readings of poems from her collection by her friends and family. N Sankar, father of the author, who released the book said, “Poetry is poetic. It embellishes and brings out the beauty of thoughts.” The book revolves around an urban experience of the body and the natural, of temporal and eternity, and of joys and sorrows.
It is about a flicker of life that is the human existence that flits in and out of eternity, just as a firefly does. Sayujya’s poetry attempts to capture all of these emotions in one collection. The young author, currently a lecturer at Madras Christian College, has dabbled in poetry since the age of 12. She completed her M Phil in English at the University of Hyderabad. She loves writing about nature and the realms of the mind. Sayujya says that there is beauty, or at least a solemnity, in everything that surrounds us. “It is through the written word that ideas flow out into the world. I hope my poetry would one day flow into others’ lives and touch them, in however minor a manner,” she said. A Firefly in the City was published by Writers Workshop, a Kolkata-based group founded by Professor P Lal, which promotes young authors. The book will be shortly available for purchase at http://www.writersworkshopindia.com/.
