CHENNAI : Popular picture sharing platform Instagram has added another feature to its utility kit – the ability to shoot and post videos of 60 seconds. This will be in direct competition with other mobile video tools from Twitter, like Vine, which allows users to take a six-second video clip and post it to Twitter or social media. Another app, Periscope from Twitter, allows live-streaming of content.
The new video feature is being rolled in at a time when a study showed that over the past six months, time spent by people watching video increased by more than 40%. “And longer videos mean more diverse stories from the accounts you love,” read a post on the official Instagram blog. Multi-clip videos will be brought back to iOS when the app updates, the post added. Instagram has supported video uploads since 2013, but the maximum time was 15 seconds. The update will be gradually rolled out to all users.
