CHENNAI: Since the reports about the deteriorating health condition of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa emerged on Sunday, an auto driver G Sukumar has been offering free services to wheelchair-bound patients at Apollo Hospital.

He has been ferrying them from Apollo Hospital to their homes in Chennai free of cost as a token of gratitude towards chief minister.

Since autos are not allowed inside and operation of battery car is limited till 500m in the hospital premises, I have taken it as my responsibility to provide free trips to patients to their home, says Sukumar.

I belong to the auto stand near Apollo. I provide free trips from 9 AM to 9 PM, he says.

Meanwhile, cadres have gathered in huge numbers outside Apollo. However, amidst the extensive security arrangements, not many people are being allowed inside the hospital.
