New Kalaivanar Arangam Inaugurated

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday inaugurated the swanky Kalaivanar Arangam at the Omandurar Estates here. Built in an area of 1,92,000 square feet at a cost of Rs. 62.73 crore, the State of the art structure was opened by the Chief Minister through video conferencing from the secretariat.

An official statement here said that the new three-storey air conditioned auditorium has a capacity to accommodate 1100 people in each of the first two floors, while the third floor is a multipurpose hall with a capacity for accommodating 1300 persons. The auditorium, which has been designed to be utilised as auditorium and modern theatre, has facilities such as escalators and lift. About 200 four wheelers and 500 two wheelers could be parked on the ground floor and 50 four wheelers and 100 two wheelers could be parked at the basement.

Jayalalithaa had announced in the Assembly that a grandiose cultural auditorium would be established in the vacant place, where Kalaivanar Arangam was demolished during the previous DMK regime, the statement added.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the State Information Centre, constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.58 Crore near the new Kalaivanar Arangam. The ground plus two storey building has come up in an area of 17100 square feet with facilities for a library.

Minister for Information and Special Programme Implementation K T Rajenthra Bhalaji, Chief Secretary Gnanadesikan, Tamil Nadu Government Advisor Sheela Balakrishnan, Information Secretary T Udhayachandran, Director of Information and Public Relations J Kumaragurubaran were present.
