Arvind Sings Venkata Ramana
Singer Arvind Sridhar gave a vibrant performance at Narada Gana Sabha on December 29. Arvind’s main pieces were Venkata Ramana and Saroja Da La Nethri in the ragams Latangi and Sankarabharanam.respectively The main standout points were his raga alapanas and neravals. He was aptly supported by Sangeetha on the violin and Sudarshan on the Mrindangam. Arvind, who works in Chicago, is a disciple of A S Murali, a professor at Kalashetra and has been learning music for the past 15 years.
Nivedita’s Dance Recital
Nivedita Gopinath Sarathy, a disciple of Krishnakumari Narendran, performed a Bharatanatyam ‘Margam’ on Monday evening at Bharat Kalachar. The two-hour recital began with ‘Mooladhara Moorthi’, an invocation in raga Hamsadhwani. This was followed by the Navaragamalika Varnam ‘Samiyai azhaithodiva’ The latter half of the recital consisted of ‘Bhavayami Gopalabalam’ in Yaman, a Kabir Bhajan in Desh, and concluded with a tillana in Kuntalavarali.

Conference on Iconography
In a move to view Indian heritage through a new perspective, the CP Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation will hold a national conference on the iconography of Hindus, Buddhists and Jains on January 8 and 9. “Iconography is one of the most outstanding aspects of Indian art, the various icons bring alive several religious, artistic and societal traditions of the country, of the Hindus, Buddhists and Jains,” said Nanditha Krishna, President of the Foundation while addressing the press on Monday. “This conference will bridge the gaps in the evaluation of the representation of icons belonging to these three religions,” she said
Maruti Suzuki Deputes 200 More Technicians to Speed up Repairs
Maruti Suzuki has deputed an additional 200 technicians to speed up the repair and restoration works of vehicles affected during the Chennai floods. A total of 500 technicians are working at the Maruti Suzuki network of workshops in Tamil Nadu at present. Besides, the firm will be adding an additional 200 technicians. The additional manpower will be diverted to Chennai from its national service network to cater to the increased workload. Maruti Suzuki has pressed into service 31 Maruti mobile vans to supplement the workshops. The company will be delivering additional spare parts to TN. Also, the arrangements are made with insurance companies to speed up the approval process.
