Seasoned bureaucrat Karthikeyan back as Corporation Commissioner

CHENNAI: Senior IAS officer D Karthikeyan, who was on Monday posted as commissioner of the city corporation, had already served in the post twice. He also has a better reputation of handling the situation during the 2011 Nilam cyclone.

The 48-year-old senior official from the 1997 IAS batch took charge for the third time.

He had served as Corporation head during the 2011 Assembly election. He was shifted after the polls and reappointed to the post in 2012. He had also worked as Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner and District Collector in Erode and Salem prior to this.

Starting as Assistant Collector in Revenue Department in July 1999, he had handled key posts in various government departments, including Municipal Administration, Finance and Civil Supplies.

A mathematics graduate with a PhD in Statistics, he had undergone training on public administration in the United Kingdom (2007) and USA (2009).

Sources in the corporation said his experience as head of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and Under Secretary in Public Works Department would come in handy for him in this job.

Other transfers

The State government on Monday transferred T N Hariharan, Collector, Dindigul district, as Collector of Coimbatore district, replacing Archana Patnaik.

V Shanta, Director, Sericulture and Managing Director, SAGOSERVE has been transferred and posted as Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited in place of V Amudhavalli.

District Revenue Officer and Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation General Manager B Baskaran has been  transferred and posted as Dindigul District Revenue Officer in place of A M Naagendran, retired already.
