CHENNAI: The manhunt for the suspect in the brutal murder of Infosys techie, S Swathi, has entered the eighth day and the police are yet to lay their hands on him. The City Police, which took over the investigation on Monday, is still sweeping the hard discs and computers used by the deceased at her workplace and at home, to secure more leads. On Thursday, police released a developed photograph of the suspect. Though a week had passed no arrest has been made yet.
Twentyfour-year-old Swathi was hacked to death on platform no.2 of Nungambakkam railway station by an assailant with a matchete on June 24, who is believed to be her stalker.
As the CCTV footages, recovered post the incident from the surrounding places, couldn't provide a clear picture of the man believed to be the suspect, police have resorted to portrait sketching and technologically enhancing the image from the CCTV grab. Top Police officers told Express that over a 100 people including family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances of the victim have been interrogated thus far. Colleagues and friends from her training days in Mysuru would also be probed, police said.
A part of interrogations are being carried out at the Nungambakkam railway station by senior police officers. Meanwhile, additional officers have been inducted into the investigation team. On Wednesday night, Joint Commissioner (south) T S Anbu and Deputy Commissioner, T Nagar, S Saravanan were made part of the team investigating an acquaintance of Swathi at Nungambakkam Police station. Commissioner T K Rajendren too visited the station and supervised the investigation. The officials refused to comment on any further development in the case.
They also brushed down versions about a suspect picked up in Ottanchathiram near Madurai.
Earlier in the day, Chief Secretary Rama Mohana Rao held a meeting with top police officials to assess the progress in the case, police sources said.
