Student clash in Chennai on Friday due to previous enmity

CHENNAI: The gory clash between two group of students that has left one seriously injured was due to previous enmity back home between two of them who hail from Kerala.

“Agil Jebastian was having enmity with one of the accused students. The clash began on Friday soon after he saw Agil near Poonamalle,” said an official of the college.

The official, wishing not to be named, said usually the students book their tickets to travel home in a centre at Poonamallee. On Friday, when Agil had gone there, he was spotted by the five accused persons, all his seniors who had passed out of the colleges with pending arrears. “They followed him till the college,” said the college official. In the meanwhile, Agil had apparently called his friends and alerted them.

When they reached the bus stop opposite the college campus, a clash broke out. They exchanged of blows with rods and wooden clubs. The situation turned nasty when one of them pulled out a small knife in a nail cutter and stabbed Agil.

Three of the severely injured students were treated in a local hospital and later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Agil alone had to undergo a surgery and is said to be out of danger.

Based on a complaint from one of the injured, Fayaz Rizvi, the Tiruvallur district police registered a case and remanded five former students of the college. The arrested were identified as: Alif Khan Naser (23), Ayoor in Kollam district, Jerin Joseph George (23), of Vellappara near Pathanamthitta, Vithun Vijayakumar (27), of Pappanamcode near Tiruvananthapuram, Nitin Rajiv Menon (24), of Kunnicode in Kollam district and Sachin (20), a native of Uttar Pradesh.

“We are looking for two more persons involved in the clash,” said E T Samson, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvallur district.
