CHENNAI: A man who slipped while boarding a running train at Egmore station had a narrow escape after he was pulled to safety by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel.The incident happened on Sunday, as the man, who remained unidentified, tried to board the Chennai Egmore- Dadar Superfast Express at the last minute. The video of the incident that was captured in the CCTV camera at the station shows the man holding onto the train railings even as he struggled to lift himself. RPF constable K Shanmugham who was nearby was quick to realise that the man was in danger of being caught between the platform and the train.
“The man had a bag which was dragging him beneath the train. I saw him struggling, and quickly pulled him to the platform,” said the 33-year-old personnel.The man, whose details were not collected by the constable, was determined to get on to the train, added Shanmugham. “The guard stopped the train following the incident, and after recovering from the initial shock, he boarded the same train again,” the constable said.
Even as he shrugged this off as part of his duty, Shanmugham added that he had seen several such cases in his 11-year-long RPF service.
“They do not realise the dangers,” he added.“The passengers must reach the station early. They should think about their family and loved ones, for there is a severe consequence due to their split-second action,” Shanmugham, a native of Salem, said.
