CHENNAI: W hile a number of telecom giants worldwide are slogging away at their desks fighting competition and working out a plan to roll out 5G before their rivals do, a funny and, of course, fake WhatsApp message was doing rounds last week. It claimed that Baba Ramdev was already ahead of them and introduced Patanjali’s Multi Sim that would give users free 5G for six months from April 1.
Complete with a photo of Ramdev plastered across what looks like a photoshopped version of Vodafone’s sim card cover, the message reads ‘Good bye to Jio, welcome Patanjali 6 months free 5G start from April 1’.
While it may sound like a juicy prospect, the sim only lives in the dreams of its makers. In line with Patanjali’s ‘Nature’s blessing’ tagline, the sim claims the message is ‘Radiation free’.
What the makers didn’t know, however, was that the sim by itself does not emit radiation; it’s the phone’s circuit that does!
Although it may not be too distant a dream for Patanjali’s foray into telecom, for now, the world may have to make do with other ‘radiation free’ sim cards in the market.
