CHENNAI: Exnora launched its statewide anti-mosquito campaign on Monday by inducting Kollywood actor J Arya as its service ambassador. The actor also launched its exclusive website (www.exnora.org/mosquito) to sensitise people about how they can contribute to eradicating it.
M B Nirmal, the founder of Exnora, who delivered the keynote address highlighted how mosquito breeding can happen right under our noses while we are busy pointing fingers at the government. “A mosquito has a flight range of only three miles. Communities have to take responsibility for dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases in their areas. Killing mosquitos is hard but killing the larvae is easy,” he said.
J Radhakrishnan, the health secretary, who also addressed the audience at the event held in SBOA School in Anna Nagar, advocated public participation in combating dengue. “Disease spreading mosquitoes breed in freshwater,” he said, pointing out that government initiatives to combat mosquito borne diseases would be pointless if people let rainwater get stored in boxes and water tanks.
The campaign launched by ExNoRa — MUST’QUIT’O — also advocates employing mosquito sprayers by communities and introducing gambusia fish in wells by highlighting its economic feasibility and ability to eradicate the problem.Thomas Franco Rajendra Dev, the general secretary of national Exnora, also the correspondent of SBOA group of schools, presided over the event.
