CHENNAI: Ending the suspense, the government announced on Wednesday that State Information Minister Kadambur Raju would unveil the memorial for late actor Sivaji Ganesan, established in Adyar on October 1.
However, this has led to criticism that the legendary actor was insulted by the absence of the chief minister during the function. The Sivaji Ganesan statue installed on Kamarajar Road was shifted to the memorial established at a cost of `2.8 crore. The function will be held in the presence of Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, MLAs, MPs, actors and family members of the late actor, said an official statement.
However, Sivaji Samooga Nala Peravai president K Chandrasekaran took exception to minister Jayakumar chairing the event, alleging that he had earlier insulted Sivaji Ganesan.
“Such memorials used to be unveiled by the chief minister in the past. But Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami chose to depute his colleagues to inaugurate the memorial which is located just behind his residence.
It is nothing but insulting the late actor. If the CM does not have time to inaugurate the memorial, it can be done by the senior actors as was done in Karnataka for the unveiling of memorial for late actor Rajkumar,” he said.
