From Pranic healing to Reiki, find out how these holistic methods help resolve inner conflicts and boost mental health and confidence.  A clean aura is the way to a healthy and prosperous life, say the mentors and healers, who will be at the two-day workshop today and tomorrow.

The power of body and mind, and aura (energy) that shrouds both are mostly unknown to people. Reason? “In a fast-moving world, people don’t wait to listen to others or themselves. There is a lack of communication,” opine experts in the field of healing and hypnotherapy. So, what can one do to speed up the process of leading an empowered and stress-free life? Different type of healing techniques — both modern and traditional — can help. City Express chats with experts and speakers who will be part of a two-day workshop, ‘The Soul Affair’, curated by Avesa, Nungambakkam, on February 11 and 12.

There are seven major chakras (energy points) and about 150 minor chakras in the human body. While there are several modern techniques that have been proven to heal chakras, Pranic healing is one of the oldest and sought after. Padmini Ramesh, a known mentor and healer, calls Pranic a more complete healing technique. She says, “There is a lot of information about energy which is not known to people and we have set backs because of lack of knowledge. We are immersed in a field of different energies and Pranic healing educates us about the ‘ABC’ of energy patterns, thought patterns and how to remove negative energy.”

The aura is not a phenomenon that can be felt only by healers. Anyone who ‘believes’ can feel any type of energy, says Padmini. “There is nothing that can’t be healed — from relationships to financial issues, everything depends on how clean your energy field is,” she adds. Talking about understanding your inner self, Swapna Shetty, certified clinical hypnotherapist and an exponent in Buddhist healing technique, the Lama Fera healing, shares, “In the fast and technology-driven world, we have little time to focus on ourselves.

This is where problems such as stress and depression begin.” Listening to yourself and resolving innerconflicts can ease and balance the chakras, which in turn will boost your mental health, self-esteem and confidence. For example, the feeling of ‘butterflies in the stomach’ you get while addressing a gathering is the solar plexus chakra going haywire. “With knowledge of a few meditation techniques, people can heal themselves without external help. When you can heal yourself, there is nothing more like it!” says Shradha Nanavati, the creator of Spiritus Space.

From reiki, chakras to modern techniques such as butterfly hug and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, the world of healing is constantly evolving and branching into several modalities. Supriya Padmanabhan, integrated clinical hypnotherapist, explains that hypnotherapy, a form of healing which involves our subconscious mind, is one such technique. “During the process, a lot of what happens to us in a physical level is felt at an emotional level. It leads to a flow of energy through the chakras and affects the body,” she explains. “Also, the process of hypnotherapy helps to handle the situation better or remove the traumatic memory, rather than dodging it.”

The healing process and techniques vary from person to person, depending on the degree of emotional or physical conflicts. “For some, it can be a simple breathing technique that gives relief while for others, it can be a set of sequential techniques like Karuna Reiki, theta healing, energy scanning and chakra healing. It may take a day for some and a couple of session for others. It depends on their past experiences,” says Tanvi Jain, a Reiki master. While the techniques focus on emotion-energy circumstances and the physical, one cannot ignore sex and relationships.

Pankhuri Agarwal, who will be conducting a session on ‘the love of sex’, says, “Back in the ancient days, sex was the most natural thing in the world — like eating, bathing and making friends. But in the medieval and contemporary times, it got classified ‘dirty’ and the whole idea was frowned upon.” Busting the myths surrounding sex, Pankhuri says that learning to say yes or no and understanding sexual aptitude will ease a relationship. “You need to be comfortable with your needs and the only way it can be done is through communication with your partner. I will also be talking about sexual humour and how to heal your sexual chakra,” she says.
