CHENNAI : Each and every day spent with Tom, Tuffy, Dora and other rescued kids are happy and wonderful memories. Tuffy is a 12-year-old Pomeranian. Dora is one-year-old rescued Indie. Tom is a rescued Pomeranian. He passed away last year. He was 12 years old. Tom was found in a garage with badly infected wounds in September 2015. I rescued him, got him treated and fostered. Adoption didn’t work as he had aged. So, I adopted him. He had perniel hernia and an enlarged heart. He was so attached to me as I gave him so much care and attention to get him back to normal health. He passed away recently due to a cardiac arrest and kidney malfunction.

Dora was found on a roadside. She was ran over by a car. She sustained injuries in her hind legs and spine. She was 45 days old when I found her. With the help of a vet, I was able to get her back to normal. I have tried to get her adopted but she is still with me. Tuffy was gifted to me when he was 30-days-old. He is my first pet and very attached to me.

Pets are more like a family. I grew up with them. On a stressful day, they are my stress busters. They are more loyal than anybody else. They don’t expect anything materialistic from me, they look for only love, care and affection. They taught me patience, humanity and compassion. The only challenge I faced with my pets was with Tom. It was difficult to build trust in him as he had lost trust in humans as he was beaten up badly. I loved the way Tom used to play hide and seek with my make-up items. He would take my things and hide under the cot or chair, sometimes in the terrace.

He would keep running around with them. At the same time, I would always worry if he would chews them as that would affect his health. He was so pampered at home and wouldn’t listen or return my things. I had to beg him a lot or bribe him with some food or his favourite treats. Dora and Tuffy join me every day during my morning coffee to get their share of biscuits. It’s like a family drama that goes on at home while I am at work.
