CHENNAI: N Kannaiah, leader of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU), who enjoys power as the general secretary of Southern Railway’s only recognised trade union for decades, now faces the threat of having a CBI enquiry being slapped on him.
Express accessed a letter written by R D Ram, Deputy Director/Vigilance of Railway Board to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) soliciting an enquiry into an alleged case of disproportionate assets being owned by Kannaiah and assistant general secretary of SRMU, S Veerasekaran.
Ram’s letter which was written on June 13, mentioned that it was based on a complaint forwarded by the Prime Minister’s Office on May 23, 2018. He added that the complaint allegedly spoke of ‘large scale corruption, mismanagement and violation of bye laws, special bye laws and MSCS Act, 2002 in Southern Railway Employees Co-operative Credit Society Limited, Trichy.’
He went on to add that the board had also sent a copy of the complaint to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for taking necessary action in the matter concerning them.
