CHENNAI: A 13-year-old schoolgirl died by suicide at her apartment complex on Radial Road in Pallavaram on Wednesday evening. The police suspect that personal issue could be the reason behind the girl’s extreme step.

The deceased was identified as N Kshibijham, a class 8 student at a private school in the locality. Her father is a chartered accountant and her mother a homemaker. She has a 9-year-old younger sister.

Police suspect after coming home from school, an argument broke out between Kshibijha and her mother on Wednesday. This could have led to the girl’s decision, the police said.

They said the girl left the house after telling her mother that she would come back after keeping her shoes on the stand outside the house. Soon after, other residents alerted the mother that her daughter was found unconscious on the ground floor. She was rushed to Tambaram Government Hospital, but she died on the way.

Police have sent her body for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment to ascertain the circumstances that led to her death.
