CHENNAI: More body parts believed to be those of the 38-year-old woman, whose decomposed remains were found in a trolley bag aboard the Chennai-New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express at Agra earlier this month were recovered from a house in Guduvanchery on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Hayathun Nisha, a native of Odisha who had been working at a private firm and living in Guduvanchery. The police are searching for Manik Uddin Laskar of Assam and his partner Bhagabati Majhi of Odisha, who are suspected to be involved in the murder. Based on leads gathered during the investigation, the police searched the duo’s rented house on Mosque Street in Guduvanchery on Friday and recovered more body from a large vessel, sources said. Nisha had allegedly been staying at the house along with the couple.

Police sources said Nisha was in a relationship with Laskar. Her son had reportedly objected to the relationship and, following a quarrel with his mother, had been living separately. He later approached the police after she went missing, following which Guduvanchery police registered a missing case.

A murder case has since been registered and special teams have been formed to trace the suspects who are on the run. “We are searching for the two suspects,” a senior police official told TNIE.

Meanwhile, the police denied reports that appeared in some media outlets that the suspects had attempted to cook the body parts or use them to prepare biryani. The remains recovered from the house have been sent for forensic examination to establish whether they belong to Nisha and match those recovered in Agra.

The case came to light on August 5, when a red trolley bag containing decomposed human remains was recovered from the general compartment of the Tamil Nadu Express after it reached Agra Cantonment railway station around 5 am.

A passenger had alerted the railway authorities after noticing a foul smell and liquid seeping from the unattended bag.

The CCTV footage showed a man and a woman carrying a red trolley bag at Chennai Central and placing it aboard the Tamil Nadu Express. The police traced the duo’s movements, eventually leading them to the rented house in Guduvanchery that was searched on Friday. Further investigation is under way.
