CHENNAI: Two youth were killed and two others injured in an accident involving three motorcycles on the Chennai-Tirupati National Highway near Tiruttani in the early hours of Saturday. Two bikes first collided head-on, following which a third motorcycle crashed into the vehicles involved in the collision. The deceased have been identified as Tharun (21), a resident of Tiruttani and Sanjeevi Raman (31) of Chromepet.
According to the police, Tharun and his friend Naveen Kumar (24) of Medinapuram were travelling towards Tiruttani from Tiruvallur when their motorcycle collided head-on with the other bike, ridden by Sanjeevi Raman, at Lakshmapuram.
The impact threw the riders off their vehicles, killing Tharun and Sanjeevi Raman on the spot. Surya (24), who was riding towards Tiruvallur, subsequently crashed into the motorcycles involved in the collision.
Surya and Naveen Kumar sustained severe injuries and were taken in a 108 ambulance to Tiruttani Government Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The bodies of Tharun and Sanjeevi Raman were sent to Tiruttani Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
The Kanakammachathiram police registered a case and are investigating. Preliminary inquiries indicated speeding on the highway during the early hours may have contributed to the accident, the police said.
