CHENNAI: A 57-year-old private school van driver was arrested under the Pocso Act by on Sunday for allegedly sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as Paneerselvam, a resident of Ponneri in Thiruvallur district, had been working as a driver for several years, transporting students of all ages.
Investigations by the Red Hills All Women police found the suspect dropped the victim, a class 3 student from Minjur, last, and during the journey, sexually abused her on multiple occasions. The matter came to light last week when the child refused to go to school. Upon questioning her, her parents found several marks on her body.
Following a complaint lodged by the parents, the police arrested Paneerselvam, and he was subsequently remanded in judicial custody on Monday. ens
