CHENNAI: A 39-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly posing as a doctor to gain entry to the women’s hostel at Government Stanley Medical College and stealing gold jewellery from a postgraduate student. Police found that six theft cases were already pending against her and are investigating whether she was involved in any other recent thefts at the hostel.
Police said the accused, V Swetha of East Tambaram, entered the hostel on Monday wearing a doctor’s uniform. She allegedly took two sovereigns of gold jewellery belonging to A Raseena (31), a second-year postgraduate student in paediatrics.
Swetha allegedly entered the students’ room and took the ornaments. Hostel staff later noticed Swetha walking towards the exit. On suspicion, the staff detained her and handed her over to the Government Stanley Hospital police. Police said Swetha had been posing as doctor to gain access to the hostel. The students had raised complaints with administration over series of thefts in the hostel. ENS
