NEW DELHI:  The national capital logged four more cases of Omicron on Tuesday. All of them returned from abroad. They are asymptomatic and admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital — Delhi’s dedicated care centre for patients diagnosed with the new Covid variant. On the brighter side, the first patient found with Omicron has been discharged from hospital after 10 days.

Announcing the new cases, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, “The tally in the national capital has gone up to six cases. However, out of the six cases, the first patient of Omicron in Delhi has been discharged from hospital and the rest are in stable condition.”

The minister added that at the moment, 35 Covid-19 patients are admitted in Lok Nayak Hospital.

Dr Suresh Kumar, medical director at Lok Nayak Hospital, said, “All four patients are stable and asymptomatic. Since they tested positive for Omicron, they will remain under observation until their RT-PCR test result comes negative. Their medication will be done as per protocols.”

These patients were not travelling from the same country. “One of the patients returned from South Africa, while two came from at-risk countries. The fourth person was staying with an Omicron positive patient. Meanwhile, we have successfully discharged the first patient after 10 days.”

Asked about the preparation to stop the spread of Covid-19, Health Minister Jain said, “Not only Omicron, we are fully prepared to tackle any variant of Coronavirus. There will be 32 types of medicines which will be kept as a buffer stock to treat Covid-infected patients.”

The first Omicron case in Delhi was reported on December 5. The patient was a 37-year-old man of Indian origin who had come to Delhi from Tanzania in November. After testing positive for Covid-19, he was admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital on December 2.
