NEW DELHI: Months after the complaint of unhygienic and substandard quality of food served in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here, the officials from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) are planning to control the quality of food provided in the institute through its ‘Eat Right Campus’ programme.

According to sources, a team of FSSAI visited AIIMS recently and provided a checklist for the messes and cafeterias. The checklist is the parameter on which the FSSAI will assess the overall quality and hygiene which would eventually be judged before giving the ‘Eat Right Campus’ tag, they added.Sources said that the AIIMS will have to clear five stages before earning the prestigious tag by FSSAI.

“Talk between officials and members of the food committee was held. Next is the enrolment process of canteens and cafeterias while the certification will be granted after three more stages of self-assessment, training of the mess workers, and the final audit,” a source involved in the food monitoring panel of the institute said. Before that, a committee would be constituted by AIIMS to monitor the process, he added.
