NEW DELHI:  A 25-year-old man, who was a sibling of one of the criminals associated with slain gangster Tillu Tajpuriya, died by suicide here in Delhi’s Alipur area, officials said on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Mohit alias Bunty (25), had no criminal antecedents, however, his two elder brothers were criminals and one of them was associated with the Tillu gang.

A senior Delhi Police official said they received information around 12.50 am at Alipur police station from SRHC Hospital Narela that a person has been brought dead due to a gunshot injury. “The deceased had shot himself in the head and was brought dead to the hospital. He used to live in a 3-storey building with his parents, wife, and 2 children (son 3 years old and daughter 1.5 yrs old),” Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh said.

During the inquiry, it was revealed that a day before on May 11, Mohit returned home with his family members, talked to them for 2-3 minutes, and then went to his room on the second floor. Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot was heard and when the family members reached the deceased room, he was lying in a near-dead condition in a pool of blood. Subsequently, the family members rushed him to SRHC Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The official said that the crime scene (deceased room) was inspected by the crime team of the police and an empty cartridge and a 9 mm pistol with a live cartridge were recovered from there. “The eldest brother of the deceased, Amit is in jail for the last 6 years and is associated with the Tillu gang. Another elder brother of the deceased, Monu, was recently been released from jail in January,” the official said, adding further investigation is underway.

Notably, Tillu gang’s leader Sunil Mann alias Tillu Tajpuriya, who was the prime accused in the brazen killing of rival gangster Jitender Maan alias Gogi inside a courtroom at Rohini Court complex in September 2021, was mercilessly stabbed to death by rival inmates inside Tihar Jail, last month.

The attack was so brutal that the assailants stabbed Tillu more than 90 times. In two chilling videos, the attackers could be clearly seen stabbing Tajpuriya until he fell unconscious.
