NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the BJP of plotting to arrest Chief Minister Atishi, claiming that central government agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Income Tax Department, had been instructed to fabricate charges against her.
In a statement, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP’s primary objective was to halt the Delhi government’s free bus travel scheme for women, which is seen as a key welfare initiative by the AAP.
He further suggested that the BJP aimed to disrupt the party’s campaign for the upcoming Delhi elections by targeting senior leaders with raids and arrests.
“The BJP has been conspiring against the people of Delhi for the past ten years, making their lives miserable by obstructing the Delhi government’s work through the Lieutenant Governor and introducing various laws. When their efforts failed, they resorted to targeting and imprisoning AAP leaders,” Kejriwal said, listing the arrests of several prominent leaders, including Satyendar Jain, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh.
Kejriwal went on to claim that recent information from sources revealed a meeting between officials from the ED, CBI, and Income Tax Department, where directions were given to frame a false case against Atishi and arrest her.
He also alleged that the central agencies were planning raids on senior AAP leaders, including himself, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Satyendar Jain, with the intention of distracting them from election campaigning.
“I am making a very serious allegation with full responsibility: these agencies have been directed from above to frame Atishi in a fabricated case and arrest her. Raids will also be carried out on other senior leaders in the coming days to derail our election efforts,” the AAP chief added.
The allegations come as AAP intensifies its preparations for the Delhi Assembly elections, where the party is seeking re-election after a decade in power.
