NEW DELHI: The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said that Arvind Kejriwal may have got a bail in the excise policy case but has lost the moral right to continue as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
“Kejriwal may have got bail but he has no right to continue as the Chief Minister,” Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said. He further said that Kejriwal getting conditional bail is not a special achievement as the trial will go on and he will soon get a long sentence.
Kejriwal was on Friday granted bail in a corruption case investigated by the CBI, linked to the alleged excise policy scam.
Reacting over the development, the Delhi BJP chief said that the Supreme Court has made it clear that Kejriwal’s arrest and the charges against him are legal.
“Kejriwal should remember that he has now joined the list of Chief Ministers like Lalu Yadav, Madhu Koda and they too had got bail and like them, Kejriwal too will soon get the sentence and go to jail again,” Sachdeva said.
The Delhi BJP president also commented on the conditions set by the apex court for the release of the chief minister.
“When he cannot do the work of a Chief Minister, then why does he want to continue as the Chief Minister ? If he is truthful, then he should explain why he has been granted bail with such conditions?,” he questioned.
BJP MP from New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj, in a press conference, said that the top court granted bail to Kejriwal as the court found that the trial might be delayed. “Still, the Aam Aadmi Party leaders are celebrating corruption and misleading the public,” she said.
Swaraj mentioned that although Kejriwal has been granted bail but he has been barred from signing any files or attending office. “Kejriwal is a careless Chief Minister of an indifferent government,” she said.
