Delhi Police busts sex racket, rescues 23 women, including three minors
NEW DELHI: In a crackdown on human trafficking, the Delhi Police has busted a sex racket operating in the city, rescuing 23 women, including three minors and several foreign nationals, from traffickers, a police official said on Sunday.
Seven persons, identified as Nurshed Alam (21), Md. Rahul Alam (22), Abdul Mannan (30), Taushif Rexa, Shamim Alam (29), Md. Jarul (26), and Monish (26), have been arrested.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsh Vardhan, police had launched the operation after receiving multiple inputs indicating the presence of an organised trafficking network in the Central District.
The probe led officers to suspected locations in Paharganj, where trafficking and prostitution activities were allegedly being carried out.
“It was discovered that the accused were bringing women from West Bengal, Nepal, and other regions to Delhi, where they were housed in a property in Paharganj’s Main Bazar before being sent to various hotels for commercial exploitation,” the DCP added.
To dismantle the racket, a special team comprising both male and female officers was formed. The team split into smaller units to conduct surveillance and execute planned raids.
“Officers observed that the victims were being transported to nearby hotels on scooters. Undercover personnel were deployed as decoy customers to verify the operation. Once the illegal activities were confirmed, police teams moved in swiftly,” said the DCP.
During the raid, police stormed multiple locations, including a suspected hideout and several hotels in Paharganj. After this, 23 women were rescued, including three minors.
