NEW DELHI: Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday directed officials to operationalise unused parking spaces across the national capital and enhance police presence in Narela. Chairing a coordination meeting with senior officers, Sandhu called for all agencies to function as a “whole of government” and work in close coordination.
The meeting was attended by the Delhi government Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi Police Commissioner, Principal Director of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Additional Commissioners of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice Chairman, among others.
The meeting deliberated on issues requiring multi-agency coordination, including parking-related challenges, encroachments and their removal, fire preparedness and other matters involving the MCD, DDA and Delhi Police. Underlining the need for a “whole of government” approach, Sandhu said all agencies must work together than in silos, particularly in matters requiring swift and coordinated action on the ground.
The Lieutenant-Governor also highlighted the need to increase outreach in schools and directed officials to strengthen engagement with teachers and students as part of ongoing civic and safety initiatives, including enforcement of POCSO guidelines.
On parking, Sandhu directed officials to make unused parking sites across the city operational at the earliest. He also emphasised the development of multi-level car parking facilities to ease pressure on available parking space.
Sandhu issued specific directions to the Delhi Police to enhance its presence and ensure security in the fast-developing Narela area. He also instructed the MCD to ensure proper civic amenities in the area.
