HYDERABAD: The next time you have a medical emergency, fire or armed intrusion in your house or office, you need not telephone the police! All you have to do is press a button, and if the claim of the Hyderabad city police is to be believed, then the sleuths would arrive at your doorstep in a matter of a few minutes! The city police is all set to launch its new project titled ‘Omnipolis’ tomorrow.
The facility will be inaugurated by Home Minister K Jana Reddy.
“One needs to install this equipment which would cost about Rs 4,000. The moment the user presses the button, the signal will reach the police control room and immediately the nearest Rakshak (patrol vehicle) will reach the victim,’’ explained Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) H K Gupta. Besides, the users will have to pay a monthly charges of Rs 400.
The equipment will be provided by DC Securities who have collaborated with the Hyderabad city police and are launching the product for the first time in the country.
Gupta said the equipment could be installed in houses and also commercial establishments.
“We have digital maps in the control room and GPS systems fitted to the 60 Rakshak vehicles. The moment we receive the alarm signal, we will use the digital map, spot the Rakshak which is nearest to the victim and rush the vehicle there,’’ the Joint Commissioner of Police said.
With the press of the button, even the location of the victim would be automatically transmitted to the control room, now being referred to as the ultra- modern control room located on the third floor of the Police Commissioner’s office at Basheerbagh.
Gupta added that this facility was available in other countries but was being introduced for the first time in our country.
The Home Minister will also be inaugurating the new office of the City Armed Reserve (CAR) and the Abids traffic police station tomorrow
