

HYDERABAD: The 11.5 km long and 17.2 metre wide PV Narasimha Rao (PVNR) Elevated Expressway from the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Mehidipatnam, to Aramghar Junction, to provide connectivity to the International Airport at Shamshabad, would be formally inaugurated on August 15, 2009, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy announced here Sunday.
During a brief inspection of the Elevated Expressway, the Chief Minister directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to speed up the work and complete it in all respects by the end of July so that the Elevated Expressway could be thrown open to traffic from August 15 next year.
HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner K S Jawahar Reddy assured the Chief Minister that all steps would be taken to complete the works before the deadline. He informed that works were going on at a brisk pace because of the HMDA’s constant monitoring.
Explaining about the Rs 439 crore project, Jawahar Reddy said there were four major components -- Elevated Expressway, Improvement of Inner Ring Road, Underpass at Aramgarh and Trumpet Interchange on NH7 for entry into and exit from the airport.
Of these, Underpass and Trumpet Interchange have already been completed.
The expressway has 328 piers and 327 spans that are 35 metres long. Three sets of up and down ramps are provided at Lakshminagar, Indra Reddy Statue and at Aramgarh for ingress and egress to the elevated expressway. The work of these ramps are yet to begin. As on now, 288 out of 328 footings, 243 out of 328 piers, 25 out of 36 spans cast in Situ and 150 out of 291 precast spans and 2,168 out of 3,496 segments have been completed.
The superstructure work of the expressway is expected to be completed by July, 2009. The length of the approach ramps on either side, i.e. towards Mehdipatnam and Chandrayangutta, is 100 metres. Underpass has been completed and is proposed to be opened to the vehicular traffic in January, 2009. The existing Inner Ring Road (IRR) will be widened to six-lane with 4.5 mts central median and 2 mts footpath.
The length of the road, which starts from Rethibowli and ends at Aramgarh, is 19.4 km. Road-widening had been completed on both sides, Jawahar Reddy said.
