Notwithstanding the political tensions across the regions of Telangana, Andhra and Rayalaseema, several youngsters from these regions on Sunday announced that they want to marry without taking into account factors like religion, region and caste. At an event organised by a social networking firm at Ravindra Bharati
on Sunday, a peaceful camaraderie reigned. “My profile number is 001020. I am an employee working with a multinational company and I draw more
than Rs 30,000 salary per month. I come from the Andhra region and have settled down in Hyderabad. I have no bias against any religion, region or caste. I will marry a man with similar ideas from any region,” offered 26-year-old M Sukanya on the platform. Another youth, Ch Satyanarayana, who belongs to Nalgonda district of Telangana region presented his profile. Saying he was an employee with the LIC company and drew Rs 20,000 per month, Satyanarayana too said his bride could be from Andhra or Rayalaseema and it did not make any difference to him. The event organised by ‘I don’t
want dowry’ provided a platform for several aspiring brides and grooms
to air their hopes for liberal, nondowry seeking partners. This is the fourth event, organised by the organisation. “At least 400 people have registered today in search of an ideal life-partner,” said Satya Naresh, director, ‘I don’t want dowry’. Idontwantdowry.com is a matrimonial portal launched four years ago
by NKG Info services Private Limited based in Hyderabad. The portal is exclusively meant for those who say “I don’t want dowry”. It serves as a platform where women can find men who are against the regressive dowry
culture. Satya Naresh said that the objective of Idontwantdowry.com is to eventually eradicate the dowry system. Ch Nirmala, a 23-year-old woman,
was busy filling out an application form at the event. Saying that she was not part of the ‘regional feeling’ crowd, Nirmala said it was sad to see people resorting to violence over such petty issues. Another girl said her parents had
picked a groom for her from Karimnagar despite the fact that her family
hails from Tadipatri, Anantapur district by using the website’s services. The event organisers said they are planning to extend their activities to other states to attract more likeminded people determined to fight the dowry system.
