HYDERABAD: In a move clearly aimed at silencing his critics, Telugu film hero and PRP president Chiranjeevi’s youngest brother Pawan Kalyan formally married his long-time live-in companion Renu Desai at his residence today.

He married her at his residence at Nandagiri Hills in the presence of his brothers Chiranjeevi, Nagendra Babu and mother Anjana Devi and other relatives. Apart from them noted film directors Puri Jagannath, Trivikram and SJ Surya attended the function. Pawan’s close aides Siddarth Goud, Pramod and M Sathi Babu were also present at the function.

Renu Desai was the heroine of his hit film ‘Badri’. Kalyan recently obtained divorce from his first wife Nandini of Visakhapatnam following a long legal battle. Kalyan and Renu had been staying together for about seven years now and have a son Akira.

Though none objected to their live-in relationship earlier, it became an issue following the launch of Praja Rajyam Party by Chiranjeevi.

With Kalyan heading the party’s youth wing Yuva Rajyam, other parties, particularly Congress and Telugu Desam Party, have been hitting out at him for continuing an illegal live-in relationship with a woman by doing injustice to another.

As the elections are round the corner, Chiranjeevi and his family decided to put an end to the controversy.

Two days back the family had decided to perform the marriage of the couple.

Barring the family members and a few close friends, none were invited to the marriage. Even Renu Desai’s brother and mother who were living in London could not make it to the function.

Renu’s father also did not attend the wedding as he was ill.

Siddarth Goud, Pramod Reddy and Sarath Marar performed the Kanyadanam. The marriage was held in the Gujarati tradition as Renu Desai belongs to that state.

A close aide of Pawan said the couple would register their marriage soon.
