HYDERABAD: The death of a 12-year-old boy suffering from a lung ailment sparked protest near a corporate hospital at Banjara Hills on Sunday evening. The hospital management, however, clarified that treatment to the ailment afflicting the boy could not be given by them.

They discharged the boy the next day.

According to police, the boy, Ch Manikanta was admitted to the Care Hospital at Banjara Hills on July 15. Manikanta was suffering from fever and breathlessness when he was admitted.

The boy’s parents — Narsimhulu and Jodamma — are residents of Jogipet in Medak district.

They claimed that their son was suffering from a heart ailment owing to which his body used to turn blue.

At the Care Hospital, doctors conducted tests on the boy and discharged him stating that further tests could not be performed as he was suffering from fever.

“The hospital authorities asked us to come back after Manikanta’s fever subsided,” they said.

On Sunday, Manikanta’s condition worsened and he was admitted to the Niloufer Hospital where the doctors said his condition was critical. Manikanta died while undergoing treatment.

Manikanta’s parent’s staged a protest in front of the Care Hospital alleging that the negligence of the hospital authorities led to the death of the boy.

Meanwhile, Care Hospital authorities said that the boy died of multiple A V Fistula in the lungs and the boy was discharged as they did not have the wherewithal to provide treatment to the child.

“On examination by a pediatric cardiologist, Manikanta was diagnosed to have been suffering from A V Fistula in lungs. He did not have any structural heart disease. He was discharged on July 16 and advised that treatment was not possible in our hospital for the ailment which actually requires bilateral lung treatment,” a press release issued by the hospital said.

The hospital claimed that the boy was advised to come back after few days to give him a document indicating the disease condition after doing a categorisation study.

Punjagutta police inspector M Malla Reddy said a case under Section 304-a (negligence) has been registered against the hospital management and investigations are on.
