The pleas and dharnas by the Integrated MA students of the University of Hyderabad have been finally answered with the hostel authorities agreeing to start a hostel mess on February 14.
Earlier, students of Integrated MA had undertaken a protest at their hostel located on the South Campus of the university demanding establishment of a hostel mess.
“The university administration has been promising us a hostel mess but not taking any measures on that front. Many students have been facing inconvenience as there is no other food joint on this side of the campus,’’ said Dhanunjay, an IMA Mathematics student of the university.
Many students said that they cannot afford the expensive food available at the commercial complexes in the university. There are around 200 IMA students who are in dire need of the mess facility.
“I cannot afford to spend forty rupees every day on food. Large chunk of the students are spending their fellowship on food with the non-existence of a hostel mess. The university administration has been delaying establishment of a of mess,’’ fumed Anji, an IMA (Telugu)student.
The protesters explained to the administration that having a mess facility would ease the financial burden on them as the university provided them meals and breakfast at subsidised prices.
The protest has come to an end with Dean (Student Welfare) B Ananthakrishnan and newly-appointed Chief Warden RS Sarraju promising the students to start the mess facility in IMA hostel from February 15.
