

HYDERABAD: The month-long Amarnath Yatra, the annual two-month pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre- high holy cave shrine of Amarnath yatra, slated to start from June 7, was postponed until June 15 due to accumulation of heavy snow. The Yatra will commence on June 15 and conclude on Raksha Bandhan which falls on August 5. The Amarnath pilgrimage will culminate on August 5, which according to Hindu almanac is the Shravana Purnima (full moon in the monsoon month of Shravana). Every year a large number of devotees trek the steep, slippery 48-km route to reach the Amarnath cave shrine, which stands at a height of nearly 12,500 feet above sea level.
The Amarnath Cave shrine is noted for the formation of the natural ice Linga – formed by the dropping of ice lets from the rooftop of the vast cave. The annual pilgrimage for two month attracts nearly 400,000 devotees from India and around the world.
City-based Rao Travels is organising the tour from New Delhi on June 15, July 6 and July 20. The places covered during this tour will be Jammu – Katra, Vaishnodevi, Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Amritsar and Kurukshetra.

While no registration of pilgrims from the Pahalgam route will be allowed beyond August 2, the registration in respect of the Baltal route will close on August 4, official release said.
