HYDERABAD: A little girl of four years was found dead with her head under water in a plastic tub at Rockwood School, Domalguda, on Thursday, leading her parents to allege negligence by the school. Police have registered a case against Rockwood.
According to the Chikkadpally police, Kavya, a LKG student, was last seen playing after the lunch break at around 2 p.m.
Minutes later, students found her with her head down in a water-filled tub. The management rushed her to a hospital but she was dead by then.
When police reached the school, they found a few buckets kept in the premises to store water. None in the management could explain how exactly the incident took place.
‘’Kavya finished her lunch and went to play. We are investigating how she died in the tub,’’ Chikkadpally sub-inspector Satyanarayana said.
The school management told the police that Kavya may have slipped and fallen into the tub, but detectives are not willing to buy the theory given that Kavya was tall for her age. “The girl was of a good height and it seems unlikely that she could have drowned in the plastic tub. We are awaiting the post-moterm report,’’ an investigator said. Kavya’s father, Kumar Naveen, an office assistant for a mobile service provider at Domalguda, and mother Saraswathi (pic) alleged negligence by the school.
While the incident is said to have taken place in the afternoon, there was a delay of a few hours before the school informed the Chikkadpally police. Based on a complaint by Naveen, police have registered a case under Section 304-a (negligence leading to death) and are investigating the case.
