HYDERABAD: Governor ESL Narasimhan gave away Intach heritage awards at a function held by the city chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage at the Salar Jung Museum Auditorium here on Monday.
Six historical monuments in the city _ the tomb of Fakhr-ul-Mulk at Erragadda, the old Idgah at Madannapet, Sri Ram Building at Khairatabad, the Dabeerpura Darwaza, the tomb of Mah Laqa Bai Chanda and the gardens of Rashtrapati Nilayam at Bollaram _ were selected for the award given for year 2010. In his address as chief guest, the governor called upon all heritage organisations to organise programmes with the participation of school managements and students to protect the historical monuments in the city. ``There area a few historical buildings located inside the Raj Bhavan and I am keen to know the history and importance of these buildings,’’ he said and called for development of city without damaging the monuments.
In her inaugural address, P Anuradha Reddy, Intach chapter convener, said that over the past 16 years more than 100 awards and citations had been given away under the Intach heritage awards programme. Governor’s wife Vimala Narasimhan released a souvenir, the Intach Heritage Annual 2011.
