HYDERABAD: Taking a serious note of the interruption of court proceedings for as many as 100 days due to agitations by advocates, chief justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court Nisar Ahmad Kakru has called upon lawyers and Bar Councils including the staff members of the courts to help evolve a strong judiciary to protect law.

He hoisted the national flag on the High Court premises on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, the chief justice urged the Bar Council and its members to maintain peace and harmony to help the courts function smoothly. ``Bar Councils have to play a key role in giving important suggestions to the courts in protecting rights of the citizens and to act in accordance with rules of our Constitution,’’ he said.

Underlining the need of the Indian Constitution and importance of the role of judiciary in democratic countries like India, justice Kakru felt that 100-day long strike, which took place on the court premises, has impacted the court proceedings. “We have to comply with the provisions of the Indian Constitution,’’ he added.

Justice Kakru said that advocates and staff members working in the judiciary including the bar councils have to assist, suggest and help the courts. ``The system has to be improved.

The court rooms are important places for us. Boycotting courts, agitations in the court rooms may impact our society. There is a risk of people losing faith in the judiciary,’’ he felt. .

Later, the chief justice distributed `Prathiba’ awards to the staff of children for securing good score in SSC and Intermediate examinations..

A Sudarshan Reddy, the state Advocate General (AG), A Narasimha Reddy, chairman, Andhra Pradesh Bar Council, T Prakash Reddy, president, AP High Court Advocates Association, judges, former judges, staff members of the High Court were among those present.
