HYDERABAD: Former Director General of Police (DGP) Ajit Kumar Mohanty was on cloud number nine, distributing sweets along with his wife Rajaswaree, after his younger son Abhishek Mohanty secured Rank 139 in the UPSC's Indian Civil Service Examinations.
With Abhishek preferring to opt for Indian Police Service, one more police officer will be added to the family legacy.
AK Mohanty's elder son, Avinash Mohanty, had also joined the IPS and is serving as an SP rank officer in Chhattisgarh.
“It is a really happy time for my family and I am happy to celebrate it along with them. I did what I had to do to prepare for Civil Service examination but it was God's grace and the blessing of my parents and well-wishers that helped me get a good rank in it,” a jubilant Abhishek Mohanty said.
Asked why he prefers the IPS, he said: “I was inspired as a child itself by the ideology and ambitious nature of a police job.
My maternal grandfather was also as police officer and that may be the key reason that drove me towards this,” he said.
Abhishek's mother had tears of happiness rolling from her eyes when she said: “It is a great occasion in my family with the third generation entering into the police force.” “I always taught my children to follow the principle of DTP - Dream, Try and Pray in whatever they do in their life. My sons have followed this and become successful,” said a proud A K Mohanty, who was a 1975 batch IPS officer and was known for his integrity throughout his career.
His elder son Avinash Mohanty, a 2005 batch IPS officer, had secured rank 45 in civil services.
He is in the city to celebrate his brother's success.
