Members of the All India Sunni Ulema Board have demanded that the government not give permission for further construction of roof or temporary tent outside the Bhagyalakshmi temple at the Charminar as the Charminar belonged to the Muslim community and it hurts the community sentiments.
Speaking at a press conference here of Saturday, Syed Shah Hamid Hussain Shuttari, working president and spokesman of the All India Sunni Ulema Board appealed to the public and government bodies not to blame Muslims for the serial thefts at Hindu temples in Hyderabad.
He demanded that the government create peace and communal harmony in Hyderabad as some Hindutva forces were trying to create tensions by attacking masjids.
During Bakrid time, some Hindutva forces stopped vehicles coming to Hyderabad carrying cattle to be sacrificed on the festival day according to the Muslim culture. The vehicles were coming to the city legally but they were stopped forcibly, he said.
“Sacrificing cattle on Bakrid is a religious right. According to the Indian constitution, no other religion has a right to stop the tradition,” he said.
He also demanded that the government fill the posts of chairman and member of the Minority Commission as the posts have been lying vacant for the last five years. A chairman should be appointed for the Minority Finance Corporation for better utilisation of minority funds.
