Dry fruit store BrownTree, which is based in Chennai and Bengaluru, has expanded its offerings of preserves and other gourmet essentials. “We believe there is a strong potential for tier II cities as the customer purchasing power is huge, but the places where one can buy items is much less in comparison,” says Abhinandan B, co-founder. The extensive range of inhouse dry fruits, spices, roasted snacks and chocolates are putting the store on speed dial for health-conscious foodies. Don’t miss the 50-plus Diwali gift packages, some of which have elaborate brocade covers, ribbons and beads.

Rasvihar’s Ethicus brand was among 10 international firms recognised last month for their efforts in promoting organic cotton. Ahalya S, co-founder and creative head, Rasvihar, says, “We plan to expand with tussar lightweight saris and a combination of different fibres like pure linen and silk.” Her Paduka collection, launched a year ago, can be worn for any occasion. Ahalya states, “Organic clothing will always be priced on the higher side, because it is handwoven, and the soil has to retain its fertility without the use of pesticides.” At the tasteful store near Loyola College, where Ahalya’s jewellery shares space with the saris, you will find both earthy and elegant red and black creations (featured), priced between `4,000 and `8,000.
