Minimally invasive surgeries may  soon take over the conventional method of open surgeries, as they are more effective and reduce complications during surgeries.

‘’It reduces the blood loss by a great deal, and the patient recovers very quickly,”  Dr. Sanjay Kalvakuntla of Yashoda Hospital, who was a part of the team that conducted a live minimal invasive spine surgery, has said.

The minimally invasive transforminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (MIS TLIF) was performed on a 30-year-old woman on Sunday at Yashoda. “A normal open spine surgery results in blood loss of about 400-500 ml, but in this procedure only 50 ml of blood is lost,”  Sanjay said.

The patient had been suffering from a lower back pain extending into her left leg.
