CM indecisive on unveiling of statues

Though the the 12 bronze statues of Telugu icons, vandalised during the Telangana Million March last year, were re-installed on the Tank Bund here last month, they are yet to be unveiled as the matter is now pending with the chief minister’s office (CMO).

The department of culture, which was entrusted with the re-installation work, was informed in Oct that the statues would be unveiled on Nov 1, the state’s formation day.

The department sent a report to the CMO that the work was completed on Oct 25.

“But the statues were not unveiled as the ministers were busy. Poets, literary figures and civil organisations have been asking us to unveil them as soon as possible,” said RV Prasada Raju, director of culture.

He said his department and the GHMC had completed all works necessary for re-installation of the statues in Oct itself, indicating that there was no delay on their part.

“We do not know why there is delay in unveiling the statues. But we have been waiting for the announcement of time and date for unveiling them,” he said.
