5 good reasons why you should make time for telly-dates this party season

December is when all the action comes to your TV. As the countdown begins, you have wildly popular chat and reality dance shows returning, while sitcom fans have the newest seasons to catch up on. And then comes the mother of all lingerie fashion events, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Read on for the highlights:

Back in action

The longest running reality dance show (launched in ’95) Boogie Woogie is back after a three year hiatus. With Jaaved Jaaferi, Naved Jaaferi and Ravi Bahl reprising their roles as judges, for the first time the show for kids aged between six and 14 will have hosts: child artist Rakshit Wahi and television actress Sargun Mehta.

Premieres on December 6 at 10 pm

Baked treats

You can never have too much cream, as the famous American series Cake Boss will prove. Meet award-winning pastry chef and cake decorator Buddy Valastro, owner of Carlo’s Bakery in New Jersey, who makes elaborate cakes for various occasions. From an Easter Bunny cake, a roulette cake to an erotic bachelorette cake, prepare to be entertained. Premieres on TLC, December 19, 10 pm

Bollywood update

Karan Johar returned to the small screen with the fourth season of Koffee with Karan. For the grand beginning he

roped in Salman Khan, a break from his usual openings with Shah Rukh Khan. While the premiere lacked the usual spunk that Karan elicites, it definitely left many sniggering over the actor’s claims that he’s a 47-year-old virgin. The rest of the season will also address recent controversies (Yash Raj Film’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan clashing with Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardar which soured his wife Kajol’s relations with King Khan). He will also bring in the Bollywood beauties of the 90s, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla - they hardly shared hellos during that time - to chit chat. But coming up this weekend are cousins Kareena and Ranbir. On Sundays, Star World, at 9 pm

Clone art

Sci-fi fans needn’t be disappointed, thanks to the new season of Canadian series Orphan Black. Sarah (Tatiana Maslany), an outsider, orphan, and street-wise chameleon, assumes the identity of her clone after she witnesses that person’s suicide. Tatiana Maslany who plays the lead role has garnered praise from publications and sites like The Hollywood Reporter. On December 6, AXN at 10 pm

Glamour walk

Watch Victoria’s Secret regulars like Adriana Lima and Doutzen Kroes sashay down the ramp for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show 2013. Not to be missed is Taylor Swift’s performance which rocked the event. On December 31, Zee Cafe at 11 pm
