It was a major task for the transport department officials to retrieve details of passengers who had died in the Mahbubnagar bus accident in the absence of a proper passengers list. To avoid such a situation, transport department will launch a software that will allow bus operators to update the details of the passengers. A senior official of the department said details like passengers name, address, phone number, emergency contact number etc., will be updated in the software.

“We will launch the software in the coming week. After testing it we will decide other modalities like who can access the information,” he said. He added that though it is mandatory to maintain passenger list, some bus operators flout the rule.

“We are already sending the information to Karnataka government about passengers going towards Bengaluru, ” said H Subhash Chandra Bose, president, AP Private Bus Owners Association.

The AP Private Bus Owners Association had earlier said that even they are mulling updating information in the association’s website.
