For both amateurs and professional artists, doodle and drawing apps are always worth checking out. With the iOS and Android platform flooded with such apps, we take a look at a few that will not only refine your artistic skills, but also help you create a masterpiece.

SketchBook Pro:

Awarded as one of the best tablet Android apps by the computer magazine PC Mag, this Android tablet app is created by Autodesk, known for their 3D design software AutoCAD. With over 60 different brush tools, you can create up to six different layers for one file and export files to Adobe Photoshop. Though it is priced at $5, there is always the option to try out their free version available on Android phones.

Paper by FiftyThree:

Serious artists can embrace this (free) iPad sketchbook app Paper, an Apple Design Award winner, which has been updated with a clever new colour picker that lets users mix colours. Named by Apple as one of the best of 2012, the app has an eraser, a pencil, two sizes of felt type tip pens, a cool fountain style nib pen, and a watercolour brush. For $1.99 each, you can invest on other tools like a ballpoint and marker, which promise to make your art more interesting.

DrawQuest:

This app is created by Chris Poole, the man behind the successful website 4chan and voted the most influential person online in 2008. The template of this iPad app (launched this month) provides one illustrated object to serve as a starting point to build a scene. There are also skill levels and Drawquest rewards active users by giving coins to unlock new colour palattes. This is the first with a community where you can upload favourite pictures, follow users and ‘play back’ drawings to see how someone created an image.
